The point of a family vacation? Clearly, it’s adventure, relaxation and family connection. We’re blessed to have a lot of family in Alaska - conveniently located for our grand adventures!

This summer, we decided to try an experiment. How little luggage could we pack for a week in Alaska? The real test – how well does the luxury of Faceplant Bamboo™ stand up to a week in the rugged wilderness?

The weather is unpredictable at best. In July it might be sunny and hot, or it might be 40 degrees and raining – usually, a combination of the two. Rain gear, and breathable, insulating layers are key to surviving an Alaskan vacation. And that’s all we packed.

Kevin brought ONE Men’s classic short sleeve t-shirt in black and one söft long sleeve tee in charcoal. I get cold easily, so I brought a söft long sleeve tee in charcoal layered over a söft tank for added insulation. Whether for family dinners or outdoor adventures, we paired these pieces with jeans or söft joggers, and added rain or wool layers on top when necessary.

Fishing is a favorite Alaskan pastime. Disclaimer: Fish were harmed in the making of this adventure, but our family eats everything we catch.

After a long day on the boat, we slept late and spent a relaxing morning enjoying the view from my sisters porch:

Fourth of July was celebrated at the Great Alaskan Car Jump. Never heard of it?  Junk cars jumping from cliffs and crashing to oblivion for entertainment? Yes, Please!

Our backs are turned to the cliff just long enough for a quick photo. As we spun back, an SUV towing a boat careened over the edge!

If you’re intrigued as I was by the car jump, you can see more mayhem at: https://www.google.com/search?q=youtube+great+alaskan+car+jump&rlz=1C1SQJL_enUS762US762&oq=youtube+great+alaskan+car+jump&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIGCAEQRRhA0gEINTAwM2owajSoAgCwAgE&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:a31a57c3,vid:CBgir0N8HJo,st:0

If I don’t believe in something, I can’t endorse it. And if you ever get the chance to see it in person, I fully endorse the annual 4th of July Great Alaskan Car Jump! It’s hard to get to, dusty, crowded and will go down in history as one of my favorite days ever.

What else can I now whole-heartedly endorse? The comfort, performance and convenience of packing just ONE shirt for a 6-day trip!

Faceplant Bamboo™ makes it easy to pack light and live large:

  • Breathable
  • Temperature regulating (Cooling when it’s hot. Warming when it’s not.)
  • Anti-microbial (Multiple days. No stink.)
  • Soft for comfortable sleeping.
  • Stylish enough to wear anywhere (in Alaska)
