My Mom, Alice, had amazing taste and was able to find the gems wherever we shopped. With our limited budget, this was often thrift stores, or when we were lucky, the sale rack at Steketee’s, the ‘fancy’ department store where I grew up.

We learned that every-day showers are optional, messy buns are sexy, make-up is completely unnecessary and that pajamas RULE! 

Like many new moms, I started out with a significant level of discretion when nursing in public, but by about the third month, with errands to run, work to do, “mommy brain” and the simple exhaustion of running on about 3 hours of sleep a night, let’s just say, I got sloppy.

The value of language to express sentiment has been hijacked by social media acronyms and emojis. And I for one, am on a lifelong mission to preserve language.

As women, we face a constant barrage of judgements throughout life. We’re too tall, too thin, too wide, too short. Our hair is definitely too curly or straight, too dark or too grey. With age and wisdom, however, comes the time to leave behind what we believe we’re hearing and recognize that often the harshest critic is the one within. We can learn to go easier on ourselves, and find ways to care for ourselves, and sometimes it just takes a simple reminder.

I hate wearing a bra, no matter the style- push up bras, bras with removable padding, wired bras, nursing bras, lace bras, strapless bras … the first thing I do when I get home for the night is slip my bra out from underneath my shirt. It’s the magic trick every woman learns. It’s as tricky as sliding the tablecloth out from beneath the dishes without disturbing any of them.

 We’re inspired by inspiring women, and one of the most inspiring women we know is our own Jen Smith (Real name. Not a stage name.) Jen is one of those uncelebrated heroes among us.

When someone suggested in 2009 that we offer the message “Sleeps with Dogs” on a pillowcase, I thought it was a stretch as an ‘inspirational’ company... but who am I to judge? Turns out, it has remained our most popular message since its introduction.

My wife founded Faceplant Dreams for women in 2008. For years, I’ve vicariously enjoyed the soft, smooth finish of her fabrics. But life is short, and I thought, “What about us?” Enter Faceplant Bamboo® Mens.

We cannot individually change the many woes of the world. We can change whether our focus is on openness and love or on division. Today may we all commit to love and connection, to dancing and flowing. Let’s disregard the divisive language we see and move back to a meeting of minds, a conversation between friends.
